It is a wonderful thing to fellowship with the church family.  At our Labor Day Weekend Picnic, my pastor's heart rejoiced to see families and individuals sitting down and eating together with glad hearts.  Many new faces were there.  Thank you to each volunteer who made this picnic a success.  And thank you to Pastor Russ and Judy for coordinating everyone!  The following photos tell the story of a group of people passionately connecting to Jesus and each other!

Wednesday, July 30, 2008 - 8:00 p.m.

Well, I've been away from an internet connection, so several days have passed.  After spending the weekend in Bakersfield, we came down to Victorville to be with Robbin's mom.  What a special time to be with friends again at our Canyon Hills church in Bakersfield (photo of church below) and visit our old home (photo below).  These dear friends were made over nine years.  Think of how special our friendships at Park Crest Calvary Temple will be over thirty years!  Today we celebrated Robbin's 38th birthday with our extended family around us.

Here is our home in Bakersfield with so many special memories, our Canyon Hills church, and the senior housing community we had a part in developing (this senior housing will be built some day on our church property in Springfield!).

Brandon and Matthew joined me in climbing some rocky hills in Victorville, and we spent some time enjoying Downtown Disney in Anaheim.  We survived the earthquake with just a few items broken.  When we were in Yosemite, a major fire broke out.  Now we seemed to have started an earthquake here in Chino Hills where my parents live!  Can't wait to get home!

After spending time at my brother Terry's home by Yosemite, we went over to the coast and spent a night at the beach with friends.  The boys and I rented wetsuits and spent hours in the surf.  Now we've arrived in Bakersfield, where I was a pastor for almost nine years.  The two photos below are from our excursion into Yosemite National Park.  This has been a wonderful vacation, but I miss the church family greatly.  I look forward to being with you all, especially the Monday night prayer group.

Wednesday morning, July 23, 2008 - 8:11 a.m.

We're now in Oakhurst, right outside of Yosemite.  After leaving Kansas City, we flew to Ontario, California to be with Mom and Dad for a day.  Then we all packed up and drove five hours to Oakhurst.  My brother Terry pastors the Assembly of God church here (see photo below of Terry and Lynn in front of their church).  Today we're going to go into Yosemite National Park.  I pray you all are doing well back at home.  We love you!

Next three photos:  1. My brother Terry and wife Lynn in front of their church - Mountain Christian Center.  2. Robbin and Brian in the airport - notice Brian's little friends Molly and Scruffy!  3. We played b-ball at Terry's home - from left to right - Terry, Cody, Caleb, Tom, Matthew, Dad, and Brandon.

Well, we've arrived in Kansas City for the beginning of our vacation.  Tomorrow morning we get up at 3:30 a.m. for the shuttle to the airport (don't you love relaxing vacations?!).  Here's a couple photos to start my vacation blog.  We ate at A&W's this evening.  A&W's was a favorite of ours as kids when we were itinerating with mom and dad as missionaries.  Now I get to share it with my boys.  The second photo of the boys doing a Chinese Fire Drill around the car while parked in front of CVS.  Kids will be kids.  If I didn't have to take the photo, I would have been running with them!

Day 4 of Kids Camp!

This is my last entry from camp.  Tomorrow morning we pack up and come home.  This has been a wonderful week.  What a privilege to get to know each child, spend time with them, swim with them, eat with them, laugh with them, and pray at the altar with them!  Robbin and I have enjoyed this week greatly and love your kids very much!

Day 3 of Kids Camp!

Here are two groups of photos.  The first is from the church service tonight.  We prayed at the altar for a long time, especially the girls.  What a special time as senior pastor to be praying at the altar with these wonderful young people!

Day 2 of Kids Camp!

Apart from a bloody nose and a few bruised shins, we are doing great.  It has been a full day of swimming and playing and morning devotions in the tabernacle.  Now we're preparing to go to the evening service.  Be praying for us!

Photos and news from Kids Camp 2008!

Greetings, parents and church family!  Here are some photos from Day 1 at kids camp.  We're all doing great on this first day.  A few tears and homesickness for a little while, but soon everyone joined in the fun.  I'll update this blog from camp each day for you to see the kids in action.  By the way, notice the parents that are obviously upset by the thought of their kids being gone for a week!

Tennis Tournament with my son

Brandon and his old man winning at tennis!2nd place - not too bad for a 43-year-old...Tonight Brandon and I played a doubles torny at Kickapoo High School.  As you can see, we did pretty well, taking second place!  Of course, Brandon carried us.  No matter how I tried, I did a pretty poor job.  But Brandon had only words of encouragement for his dear old dad.  Now my bones are aching and I'm ready for bed, but my heart is rejoicing that I had the opportunity to spend time with my first born son...

Exciting Sunday events!

This Sunday we have the privilege of honoring our country and the men and women who served in the armed forces.  You will not want to miss the patriotic musical presentation in both services on the Park Crest campus.  On our Calvary Temple campus, the Masters Commission students will be honored as they graduated from a year of servanthood and learning.  In the evening we will be experiencing an illustrated sermon presented by the Masters Commission students.  Next week we will have our annual Missions Parade, with 54 new missionaries on the platform of our Park Crest campus!  My friend, don't miss out on what God is doing - be a part of making it happen!

Assemblies of God Theological Seminary class

This week I have had the privilege of attending "Leading Missional Ministry," part of my Doctoral Studies.  What a valuable time to step back and reflect on what our church is doing that is really making a difference, what really counts.  Jesus set the agenda for the church in his Great Commission:  "Go and make disciples, teaching them, and baptizing them."  Evangelism and discipleship are the two central missions of the church.  How are we doing in these areas?  I'm excited to see how Park Crest Calvary Temple changes in the years to come in order to fulfill Jesus' direct command!

Recent kids events of our church

Commander Rick of our Royal Rangers sent me these photos of our kids in action.  The first set of photos is the Pow Wow held up at Lake of the Ozarks.  The second set is the car wash fundraiser they held last Saturday.  These boys sure are active!  How do the commanders keep up?
